Thai-Style Grilled Pork Skewers

Around the corner of the hotel, we found Thai-style grilled pork skewers–Moo Yang(หมูย่าง) for 10 baht that has become one of our favourite breakfast foods. It's perfect on its own and great to go with sticky rice or eggs as well.

It tastes similar to Canadian-style peameal bacon to us! It's slightly sweet and is marinated with fish sauce, coconut cream and cilantro.

Sausages

If you like pork, chances are you will also like these delicious sausages in Thailand. Our favourate so far, is Northern Thai Sausage–Sai Oua(ไส้อั่ว). It's made from minced pork with veriety of ingredients such as lemongress, fish sauce and shrimp paste which makes it packed with flavours, and gives it the unique taste.

We also liked the sticky rice sausage and fermented sour pork sausage–Sai Krok Isaan (ใส้กรอกอีสาน). All of these can be easily spotted in street food vendor or in a night market freshly grilled in front of you.

Thai-style pancake/roti

There many different types of Thai-style pancake/roti. From what I have seen so far, there are fried roti, jar baked roti, crispy crepe and pancake style.

The one I liked the most for breakfast is crispy crepe with egg. However, plain roti with condensed milk is by far now the best desert I have ever known!

Chocolate and banana roti is also very popular among the locals crowds.

Khanom Tokyo (ขนมโตเกียว)

This is another version of Thai pancake prepared with egg batter. The filling consists of hotdog, eggs, or coconut.

You can find it from street vendor made fresh and in a small roll size.

Dim Sum

We found many street vendors selling pork dim sum. It's simple and delicious. It usually come with premixed sauce of fish sauce, soy sauce, lime juice and deep fried garlic.

Fruit Stand

You can find pre-cut seasonal fruits such as papaya, pineapple, mango, rose apple stored over ice for roughly 20-30 baht a bag in the market. They are experts at cutting fruit in a such efficient way. It's a joy to see them slice a guava into bite sized pieces.

Soft Grilled Buns

The bun itself is soft and milky. The vendor first grills it then fill it with all the creamy yumminess. I love the Thai Tea flavour filling. Creamy custard is another flavour you can never go wrong with.

Fresh fruit smoothies

In the Land of Smiles, fresh fruits are so accessible in contrast to Canada where mostly frozen fruit or fruit shipped from around the world will be used off season. You can find local fresh fruit smoothies whenever your heart desires. Our favourites so far are watermelon, mango and coconut milk smoothies.
